Creating Additional Fields on the Order Form

Note: The following help document applies only to merchants who signed up before 04/12/06, who are still using an older version of checkout and have not yet moved to Checkout Manager. The older checkout flows (version 1 and 2) are only available to merchants who signed up before this date. If you signed up after this date, then you only have access to Checkout Manager. To create customized fields on your Order Form or Catalog Request page, use the "Order Form" link on your Store Manager page.

Click on one of the "Add Extra Fields" options to put your new field in the Billing or Shipping Info section of the Order Form page or on the Catalog Request section of the page. (You can also use this form to change the title of your Catalog Request page.)

You can then select one of five types of custom fields:

  • Hidden field (text that only appears on the printed order).
  • Info field (text that appears on the Order Form).
  • Text Input field (for a single line of text input with a set character limit).
  • Text Area field (for a multiple line text input area with no character limit).
  • Checkbox.
Each custom field must have a unique name.

There are three options for when your custom fields will appear on the Order Form:

  • Optional/does not appear on express order (input into this field is not mandatory, and the field won't appear on express checkout orders).
  • Options/does appear on express order (input into this field is not mandatory, and the field will appear on express checkout orders).
  • Mandatory (input into this field is mandatory, and the field appears on all versions of the Order Form).
Please note that the Checkbox input field has two states, selected or cleared, and both are considered valid input, so making the Checkbox custom input field mandatory has no effect on that field. If a person leaves the Checkbox blank, it will still be passed as valid input.

Once you've created your custom fields, click on the "Publish Order Settings" link in the Order Settings column on your Store Manager page to make the changes live.
