Setting a minimum order value

Checkout Manager includes the ability to set a minimum order value below which buyers will not be able to complete checkout. This feature is useful for sites that sell low cost items (for example latex balloons for a part supply store, or paper for a scrapbooking store) where the merchant wishes to ensure a minimum order size (minimum profit per order). Merchants can elect to use this feature, set the dollar amount to represent the minimum, and also control the error message shown to buyers who try to check out below the minimum order value.

To set a minimum order value:

  1. From the Checkout Manager hub, click Advanced Settings.
  2. Select the checkbox for minimum order value.
  3. Enter a number to represent the minimum order value allowed to complete checkout. For example, if you enter $10, orders of $9.99 and under (excluding coupons, tax, shipping and gift wrap charges) will be unable to complete checkout.
  4. Edit the error message (optional).
  5. Click Save.
  6. Publish your Order Settings when ready.
Note: Minimum order value will be applied before
  • coupons
  • tax and shipping charges
  • gift wrapping charges (if applicable)

In other words items totaling $5, with a $5 shipping charge, would not qualify for checkout if the minimum order value was set to $15.
