Uploading and referencing images from a secure directory

If you insert custom HTML into your checkout pages that reference images or other files, you will need to make sure that any images/files are referenced from a secure directory (https). If you do not use a secure directory, shoppers may get warnings that the site contains both secure and insecure data. Receiving such warnings may cause shoppers to question the security of your checkout process and they may abandon their order for fear of having their personal or financial data mishandled.

The instructions for uploading files to a secure directory will depend on the type of account you have: Merchant Solutions or Yahoo! Store.

Merchant Solutions

Yahoo! Merchant Solutions customers can upload files to the Web Hosting portion of their account. You will first need to create an SSL directory if you have not already done so.

To create an SSL directory:

  1. Sign in to your account at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com.
  2. Click the "Web Hosting Control Panel" link.
  3. Click the "Manage" tab.
  4. Click the "File Manager" link.
  5. Click the "Create Subdirectory" link, enter "ssl" for the name and click "Create Subdirectory".

To upload file to your ssl directory:

  1. From the File Manager, click the "ssl" link.
  2. Click the "Upload Files" button towards the top of the File Manager.
  3. Click the "Browse" button, navigate to and select the file you wish to upload and click "Open".
  4. Repeat for other files if necessary and click "Upload Files".
  5. Return to the File Manager, click the "SSL" link, and click the link for the file you uploaded.
  6. Copy the address for your image appearing in the web browser address bar for use when referencing this file within checkout pages. Note: The address will be similar to https://s.hostingprod.com/@your-domain-name.com/ssl/image-name.gif

Yahoo! Store

Yahoo! Store merchants can upload files to the Files section ("lib" directory), which allows for relative linking from a secure directory. In other words, if you upload files to your "Files" section, then you can use a relative link in your HTML within your custom checkout pages.

To upload a file in your "Files" directory:

  1. From the Store Manager, click the "Store Editor" link.
  2. Click the "Files" button in the Editor toolbar (you may need to switch to Advanced mode by clicking the red arrow in the Editor toolbar to see the Files button). Note: If you do not see a Files button after switching to advanced mode, then you have a Merchant Solutions account and will need to use the instructions above for uploading files to a secure directory.
  3. Click the "Upload" button.
  4. Click the "Browse" button, navigate to and select the file you wish to upload and click "Open".
  5. Enter a file name (letters, numbers or hyphens only) and click "Send".
  6. Copy the link appearing for your uploaded file for use when referencing this file within checkout pages. Note: The address will be similar to /lib/your-account-name/image-name.gif
