Variables allow you to define a global setting to be used across all pages in your site. This allows you to update the variable in one place rather than on each page of your site. However, you may wish to make a change to these global settings on a specific page. You make such a change by overriding a variable.
You can choose to override a variable on a specific page and create a unique setting for that page only. To do so, use the "Override Variable" button at the top of the Edit page, accessed by navigating to the page you wish to edit and clicking the Edit button in the Editor toolbar.
To set up a Variable Override:
- From the Store Editor, navigate to the page where you wish to add a variable override.
- Click the "Override Variable" button for an alphabetical list of all the variables you can override.
- Choose the variable from the drop-down menu and click "Update". This takes you back to the page where you were editing the item. The variable you chose to override now appears at the bottom of the edit page.
- Edit the variable as desired.
- Click "Update" to confirm your edits and publish the changes when ready.
To undo an override, so that the item page is restored to the global variable again:
- First navigate to the page in your Store Editor where you wish to remove a variable override.
- Click the "Edit" button in the Store Editor toolbar.
- Click the "Remove Property" button at the top or bottom of the page.
- Select the custom property you wish to remove from the drop-down list.
- Click the "Update" button to delete the selected custom property. You will be returned to the "Edit" page.
- Click the "Update" button to save your changes.
