Image Dimensions Variables

The Variables in the Image Dimensions section let you set the height and width of the three types of item image properties - Image, Icon, and Inset, as shown in Figure 1. The Image Dimension properties are:

Figure 1: This is a section page with three items. Note that the dimensions of the Inset can have a significant effect on the page's Caption text, pushing it out.

Item-height: Enter a number to control the maximum display size by height of the Image property in pixels on an item page. (The default value for both Item fields is 180 pixels.)

Item-width: Enter a number to control the maximum display size by height of the Image property in pixels on an item page. (The default value for both Item fields is 180 pixels.)

Thumb-height: Enter a number to control the maximum display size by height of thumbnail images in pixels on a section page. A thumbnail image comes from either the Image property or the Icon property of a child item. (The default value for both Thumb fields is 45 pixels.)

Thumb-width: Enter a number to control the maximum display size by width of thumbnail images in pixels on a section page. A thumbnail image comes from either the Image property or the Icon property of a child item. (The default value for both Thumb fields is 45 pixels.)

Inset-height: Enter a number to control the maximum display size by height of a page's Inset property. An Inset is an optional secondary product image that displays on the page alongside the primary Image. This is useful for showing a close-up of the product or an alternate image. An Inset works the same way as an Image - click to view the full-size original version. (The default value for both Inset fields is 70 pixels.)

Inset-width: Enter a number to control the maximum display size by width of a page's Inset property.

Uploaded-img-default-type: Choose a file format (GIF, JPG or PNG) for generating resized images when uploaded images exceed your maximum image variable dimensions. If you do not choose a default setting, GIF format will be used.

Generated-img-default-type: Choose a file format (GIF, JPG or PNG) for images generated by the Store Editor (such as Display headlines, pricing images, and Editor 2.0 template navigation buttons). If you do not choose a default setting, GIF format will be used.

Figure 2: Two pages showing how changes to the thumbnail-height and thumbnail-width and item-height and item-width affect the page layout. The first screen (at left) shows these variables with the default values. The second screen (at right) shows the same variables with increased values..

Note
The displayed image cannot be larger than the height or width of the originating image file. For example, if the image file is 200 pixels wide, setting Item-width to 400 will not make the image appear any wider than 200 pixels. To display a larger image, you must upload a larger image.
