Copying variables before migrating

Note: The following document applies only to existing merchants using version 2 or earlier of the Store Editor. Merchants that signed up after 10/12/06 will be on the latest version of the Store Editor and will not need these instructions.

Before you use the Design Wizard, you should copy any content you have added to variables (such as text in keywords, description, final text, etc…). For existing merchants, using the Design Wizard for the first time will overwrite all global variables so you will want to copy this information prior to migrating to the new templates.

Note: Variables that are overwritten on specific pages will be maintained—only global variables are overwritten.

To copy variables:

  1. From the Store Manager, go to the Store Editor.
  2. Click the Variables button in the Editor toolbar.
  3. Highlight and copy (ctrl + c) any text in variables that you wish to copy:
    • Any custom variables with content
    • Final-text
    • Head-tags
    • Address-phone
    • Any other variables with information you wish to save
  4. Paste your content into a word processing document or text file and save the file for use after using the Design Wizard.

After completing the Design Wizard, you can then return to the Store Editor, go to the Variables page, and paste the content you copied into the new variables.
