Generic templates provide the most flexibility in terms of easy customization for merchants. With any of the generic templates you can select:

• Side or top navigation layout (where your category or product links appear)
• A color palette to match the look you want for your store

Generic templates can also be customized with your own images. With generic templates, you can upload images into the following areas:

• Header background
• Company logo
• Search bar region (side navigation layout only)
• Search button
• Navigation region
• Add to cart button
• Footer background

If you wish to customize your site to have images throughout, you should start with a generic template and then add your images to your store using the variables provided on the Variables page within the Store Editor.

Pre-designed templates are somewhat less flexible in terms of customizing because the layout has already been chosen and images have already been created and uploaded specifically for this template. Learn more about pre-designed templates.
