An Overview of Building a Store with Yahoo! SiteBuilder

Note: SiteBuilder is recommended only for merchants with a limited number of products (less than 20) or infrequent updates. With SiteBuilder, if you make edits to your layout or links to new sections, you must make the changes to each page. With Store Editor, if you make changes to design, layout, or links, Store Editor automatically makes the changes to all pages, making Store Editor a more manageable solution for larger stores. Step 1—Set up your products in Catalog Manager

  1. Start by adding your products to Catalog Manager. Catalog Manager allows you to add items individually or download, edit and upload your product data using a .CSV file.
  2. Next, you need to add a new field to your products so Yahoo! SiteBuilder knows where to publish your pages. Add "product-url" to the Shopping fields for your products.
  3. Then, add product-url values for each product in your catalog.
  4. To complete, step 1, enable your product catalog so that you can import your product catalog to Yahoo! SiteBuilder in step 2.

Step 2—Import Your Catalog and Build Your Store

  1. Begin by importing your product catalog into Yahoo! SiteBuilder.
  2. Create your first store page by selecting a template.
  3. Use the Store Products Page Wizard to build your pages.
  4. Publish your site when ready.

As you update your product data, be sure to refresh your product catalog so you can view the latest product data as you build your pages. If you do not see products you have added to your catalog when trying to add a product module, try refreshing the catalog.

When a shopper visits your store, as the page loads, product data is pulled from Catalog Manager by the Store Tags inserted in your page by Yahoo! SiteBuilder. This allows you to manage and update your product data separate from editing your actual pages. As your store grows in size, this becomes more and more important.

Step 3—Customize and Publish Your Order Settings (Shopping Cart and Checkout)

While you manage product data in Catalog Manager, and build pages in SiteBuilder, you use the Order Form section of the Store Manager to edit your shopping cart and checkout pages. While the number of edits currently possible is limited, Yahoo! Store has an industry-leading checkout process with a proven track record.

When a buyer clicks an "Order" button from a page in your store, they are taken first to the shopping cart page. Clicking the "Checkout" button takes the shopper to the pages of the checkout process (shipping, billing, order review, and order confirmation).

  1. Your Yahoo! Store comes with a fully complete shopping cart and checkout process. All you need to do besides setting up pay methods, shipping and tax rates is publish your order settings. You can of course choose to customize your order form. You can upload a company logo, or change the cart look to a minimal design.
