By default, the Store Editor uses the information in the "Name" field to fill the page title (the top bar of your web browser). If the information you enter for the name of your product is descriptive (SuperWidget by AcmeProWidgets) then this setting can save time by not having to enter information into a name and title field.
However, as search engine optimization becomes more and more important for driving traffic to your store, you may want the flexibility of having a customized title for your page different than the "Name" field. A customized page title is important as this information is used in several ways:
- appears at the top of the page in the title bar of the web browser (see A figure 1)
- appears as the default text when added as a "Favorite" or "Bookmark"
- in regards to search engines, appears as the title of the page in search results

Search engines give much weight to the TITLE tag, so you should use care when choosing what information to appear in your title. Here are some tips for writing title tags:
- Use keywords or keyphrases in your page title tag and place them as early as possible in the tag (for example a book shop might have a title on the home page of "Rare books and manuscripts, signed first editions, specializing in American and English authors").
- Do not use your company name if it is not immediately recognizable to your customers; if you still wish to do so, you can place your company name at the end of the title. Using the example above, "Rare books and manuscripts, signed first editions, specializing in American and English authors—Paul's Antique Book Shoppe")
- Match the title tag of the page to the page contents so the title and body content work together. Using the current example, a section page for the book shop listing 20th century American author first editions would have a title tag with those words. A title tag for a page featuring one particular American author would have keywords such as the author's name, book name, etc….
To have the Yahoo! Store Editor generate a TITLE tag for your page using a title that is not the same as the "Name" for your item or section pages, you'll need to add a new property (page-title) to the page.
To add a page-title field to a page:
- Sign in to the Store Editor and click the red triangle button on the Editor toolbar to switch to "Advanced Editor" mode.
- Navigate to the item or section page for which you wish to use add a page-title, and click the "Edit" button on the Editor toolbar.
- Click the "New Property" button.
- Enter "Page-title" (without the quotation marks) as the "Name" and select a "Type" value of "Text". Click "Update" to create this new property for this item or section page. (The page reloads and your new page-title property will appear in the "Custom Properties" section at the bottom of the page.)
- Enter the title you wish to be used within the HTML TITLE tag for your page into that field. Repeat steps 1-5 for any additional page for which you wish to have a custom page title and publish your changes when ready.
The "Page-title" property will not be used for any other purpose. The "Name" or "Headline" for your item and section pages will still be used for the display of your item or section page names within the pages themselves and in any search results in Yahoo! Shopping that include that page.
