Why won't my file upload in the Files area?

Note: The following document only applies to Legacy Stores and not Merchant Solutions.

The files that you upload to your Files area must be assigned names that consist only of letters, numbers, hyphens, and periods. Other characters (such as a space or underscore) are not allowed in the file name you assign when you upload a file to your Files area. The file name you assign must also begin and end with either a letter or a number. It's not possible to assign a file name that begins or ends with a hyphen or period.

You should also be sure to include the proper file-type extenstion (such as .jpg or .mp3) for the file you're uploading, so that your visitor's web browser software will know how to process and correctly download the file when you give someone a link to that file.

If you attempt to assign a file name that includes invalid characters or that begins or ends with a hyphen or a period, the file will upload, but it will not appear in your Files area and you will have to re-upload your file with a valid file name assigned to it.

Once you've uploaded a file to your Files area, you should publish your site in the editor, so that the file will be available when you link to it in your published site using relative URLs.

For information on uploading to the File Manager of your Merchant Solutions account please see:
