How does Private Domain Registration work?

When you purchase Private Domain Registration for the domain you registered through Yahoo!, we send a message to our domain name registration partner, Melbourne IT. Melbourne IT then begins the process of making your personal domain contact information private, replacing the mailing address, email address, and phone numbers of your domain name registrant, administrator, and technical and billing contacts in the public WHOIS database with Melbourne IT contact information.

When the activation process is complete, your own contact information will remain associated with your domain in Yahoo!/Melbourne IT's database but will not be made available in the public WHOIS (please note that the registrant name and anonymous information such as your domain name servers will remain public). Learn more about why this information is required.

When third parties locate your domain name and WHOIS record in the public database, they will be unable to view your contact information. To communicate with the owner, administrator, technical contact, or billing contact for your domain, a viewer will first need to contact Melbourne IT. Learn more. (Please be aware that Melbourne IT reserves the right to disclose your contact information to comply with laws and other regulations as it deems appropriate.)

Important note: Please be aware that your information may not be concealed immediately. Changes to domain name registration can take up to 24 hours to be reflected in the public WHOIS database. You can review your WHOIS record anytime from the "Domain Registration Information" page of your Domain Control Panel. Learn how.
