How do I enable spam filtering when I use POP?

If you have a Business Email address associated with a Yahoo! ID, by default we will not automatically download suspected spam messages when you use POP. This offers you spam protection even when you're checking your messages remotely.

To make sure this setting is enabled:

  1. Click "Options" in the upper-right corner of the page, then choose "Mail Options" from the pull-down menu.

  2. On the page that opens, click "POP & Forwarding" option.

  3. On the POP & Forwarding page, click the "Set up or edit POP & Forwarding."

The original Mail POP & Forwarding page opens in a new window or tab.

  4. The radio button "I don't want to receive any messages SpamGuard Plus thinks are spam" should be selected.

Note: If you'd like to receive all your messages when you use POP, select the "I want to receive all messages, including those that Yahoo! SpamGuard thinks are spam" radio button.

  5. Click "Save" to save your changes, then close this window to return to your Business Email.

If you choose to download all your messages, we can help you filter spam by adding the word "Bulk" to the subject line of any suspected spam. Here's how:

  4. Select the "For messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam, add [Bulk\ as a prefix to the subject" checkbox.

  5. Click "Save" to save your changes, then close this window to return to your Business Email.

Once you've selected this option, you can set up a filter in your mail client to automatically sort messages with the word "Bulk" to a specific folder. To set up this kind of filter, please refer to your program's help files.

Important: If you have a Business Email address you access exclusively via POP, all messages — including spam — will be downloaded to your email program.
