How do I report unsolicited mail?

There are a few ways to report unsolicited mail:

  • If you've been "spammed" by someone you don't know, don't reply to the sender or follow any removal instructions that might be included. Instead, use the "Spam" button above each message to report the mail to Yahoo! We monitor messages that you report to find the latest tricks and techniques spammers are using to evade our filters. With this information, we can update our filters to prevent that message from arriving in your inbox again. (Please note that this feature is available only to Business Email customers using the Yahoo! interface.)

  • If an unsolicited email originates from a Yahoo! International Mail account (such as user@yahoo.co.uk, userexample@yahoo.de), please send a report to the Yahoo! Customer Care team.

  • Contact the sender's ISP. How do you find out whom to contact? Look at the domain. This is the part after the "@" sign in an email address or the last part of the server name in a URL. For example, the email address example@example.com has a domain of "example.com."

Once you know the domain, email the entire message (including full headers) to "abuse@" that domain name and explain your situation. For example, if you received spam from spammer@example.com, send the original email and your complaint to abuse@example.com. The ISP may have further requirements, but this is the person or group you need to contact. Please note that spammers frequently forge their identity, and thus the ISP you contact many not be able to take any action.
