How do I enable SMTP server authentication?

The Yahoo! Mail SMTP server requires authentication. Select your specific client below to enable this setting:

Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Select your Yahoo! Business Email account and click "Properties."
  4. Click on the "Servers" tab.
  5. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
  6. Click "OK."

Note: Please make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not checked.

Microsoft Outlook 98 and 2000

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Select your Yahoo! Business Email account and click "Properties."
  4. Click on the "Servers" tab.
  5. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
  6. Click "OK."

Note: Please make sure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication" is not checked.

Microsoft Outlook Express

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select the "Mail" tab.
  3. Double-click the account labeled "pop.bizmail.yahoo.com."
  4. Select the "Servers" tab.
  5. Check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
  6. Click "OK."

Microsoft Outlook Express for Macintosh

  1. From the Tools menu, select "Accounts."
  2. Double-click on your Yahoo! Business Email account.
  3. Under "Sending Mail," you will see "Click here for advanced server settings." Click this to open the settings.
  4. Check the box next to "SMTP server requires authentication."
  5. Click "OK."

IncrediMail 618 and Higher

  1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
  2. Select your Yahoo! Business Email account and click the "Properties" button.
  3. Click on the "Servers" tab.
  4. Under Outgoing Mail Server, check the box next to "My Server Requires Authentication."
  5. Click "OK," then "Close" on the Mail Accounts window.

Microsoft Entourage 2001

  1. Open Entourage and click "Tools."
  2. Select "Accounts" from the pull-down menu.
  3. Double-click your Yahoo! Business Email account.
  4. On the Account Settings window, scroll to the "Sending Mail" category toward the bottom.
  5. Click on "Click here for Advanced Sending Options."
  6. Check the box next to "SMTP Server Requires Authentication."
  7. Close this window by clicking the box in the upper-left corner.
  8. Click "OK."

To ensure that the new settings are configured properly, we suggest that you close Entourage and reopen it before attempting to send or receive messages.
