Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003

Microsoft Outlook allows you to add a new email account to your existing profile. This means you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Business Email messages with Outlook.

To add a new Yahoo! Business Email POP email account in Microsoft Outlook 2002 (sometimes referred to as Outlook XP) or Microsoft Outlook 2003:

  1. Launch Outlook.
  2. Click the "Tools" menu link.

  3. Click "Email Accounts..." in the Tools pull-down menu.

  4. In the E-Mail Accounts window:

    • Select the radio button for "Add a new e-mail account"
    • Click the Next button

  5. In the Server Type window:

    • Select the radio button for "POP3"
    • Click the Next button

  6. In the Internet E-mail Settings window:

    • User Information
      • Your Name: Enter the name you would like to appear in the "From" field of outgoing messages.
      • Email Address: Enter your full Yahoo! Business Email address (for example, "j.smith@yourdomain.com").
    • Server Information
      • Account Type: POP3
      • Incoming mail server: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com
      • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com
    • Logon Information
      • User Name: Enter your entire Yahoo! Business Email address.
      • Password: Enter your Yahoo! Business Email password.
    • Do not check the box next for "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)."
    • Click the More Settings button

  7. Select the Outgoing Server tab.

  8. On the Outgoing Server tab:

    • Check the box for "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
    • Select the radio button for "Use same settings as my incoming server" (this is usually auto-selected as the default option)

  9. Click the Advanced tab.

  10. On the Advanced tab:

    • Under "Incoming Server (POP3)", check the box for "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)".
    • The port number in the "Incoming Server (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, change the port number to 995.
    • Under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)", check the box for "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)".
    • Enter port number 465 in the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" field.
    • In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window:
      • Check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Business Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server when they are downloaded to Outlook.
      • Check "Remove from server after ___ days" if you would like downloaded messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! servers after the specified period of time.
      • Check "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'" if you would like Outlook to delete the copies messages on the Yahoo! servers when you delete the copy in Outlook's Deleted Items folder.
    • Click the OK button.

  11. Click the Next button.

  12. Click the Finish button.

You can choose whether Outlook leaves copies of email messages on the Yahoo! server when downloading them to your computer or whether they are deleted from the Yahoo! server when downloaded to your computer.

To control deletion of messages from the server:

  1. Launch Outlook.
  2. Click the "Tools" menu link.

  3. Click "Email Accounts..." in the Tools pull-down menu.

  4. In the E-Mail Accounts window:

    • Select the radio button for "View or change existing e-mail accounts"
    • Click the Next button

  5. In the E-Mail Accounts list:
    • Select the account you want to edit.
    • Click the Change button.

  6. In the window that opens, click the More Settings button.

  7. Click the Advanced tab.

  8. On the Advanced tab:

    • In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window:
      • Check "Leave a copy of messages on server" if you want to save your Business Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server as well as on your local computer. Do not check this box if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server when they are downloaded to Outlook.
      • Check "Remove from server after ___ days" if you would like downloaded messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! servers after the specified period of time.
      • Check "Remove from server when deleted from 'Deleted Items'" if you would like Outlook to delete the copies messages on the Yahoo! servers when you delete the copy in Outlook's Deleted Items folder.
    • Click the OK button.

  9. Click the Next button.
