Netscape Mail: All Versions

Later versions of Netscape allow you to add a new email account to your existing profile. This means that you do not have to replace your current settings in order to send and receive Yahoo! Business Email messages. (If you are using Netscape 4.7 or earlier, please be sure to write down your current settings before deleting them so you can check email from that account after you make these changes.)

Netscape 7.x

  1. From the Window menu on the toolbar, select "Mail & Newsgroups."

  2. From the Netscape 7.x Mail window, click the "Edit" menu on the toolbar and select "Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings..."

  3. Click the "Add Account..." button below the left column.

  4. Select "Email Account" from the list and click "Next."

  5. Enter your name.
  6. In the Email Address field, type your full Yahoo! Business Email address (e.g., user@widgetdesigns.com).

  7. Click "Next."
  8. Select "POP" as your incoming mail server.
  9. Enter your incoming mail server (POP3): pop.bizmail.yahoo.com
  10. Enter your outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com

  11. Click "Next."
  12. Under User Name, type your Yahoo! ID.
  13. Under Account Name, type your Yahoo! ID.
  14. Click "Next."
  15. Once you have verified that all this information has been entered correctly, click the "Finish" button.
  16. Open the "Edit" menu, and select "Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings."
  17. Check the box next to "Use secure connection (SSL)" in the "Server Settings" section. The port number should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, make sure to change the port number to 995.
  18. Select the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" item in the left menu.
  19. Enter "465" in the "Port:" field.
  20. Change "Use secure connection" to "TLS" under "Outgoing Server (SMTP)," and click "OK."

To read your messages, click the "Read Messages" link under the Email category (toward the top of the page) and enter your Yahoo! password.

If you want Netscape Mail to remember your password, check the box next to "Use Password Manager to remember this password." You will be prompted for your password initially. When prompted, enter your Yahoo! Business Email password.

To leave a copy of messages on the Yahoo! Mail server:

  1. Go to the Window menu and select "Mail & Newsgroups."
  2. From the Netscape client toolbar, click on "Edit," then "Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings."
  3. In the left column of the Settings window, click on "Server Settings."
  4. Check the box next to "Leave messages on server."

Netscape 6.2

  1. From the Tasks menu on the toolbar, select "Mail & Newsgroups."
  2. From the Netscape 6 Mail window, click "Edit" on the toolbar and select "Mail and Newsgroup Account Settings."
  3. Click the "New Account" button below the left column.
  4. Select "ISP or email provider" from the list and click "Next."
  5. Enter your name.
  6. In the Email Address field, type your full Yahoo! Business Email address (for example, linda@learn2yoga.com).
  7. Click "Next."
  8. Select "POP" for your incoming mail server.
  9. Enter your POP server settings: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com.
  10. Click "Next."
  11. Under User Name, type your Yahoo! Business Email address, with the "@" symbol replaced with a "%" sign (e.g., "user%widgetdesigns.com").
  12. Under Account Name, type your Yahoo! ID.
  13. Click "Next."
  14. Once you have verified that all this information has been entered correctly, click the "Finish" button.
  15. Open the "Edit" menu, and select "Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings."
  16. Check the box next to "Use secure connection (SSL)" in the "Server Settings" section. The port number should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, make sure to change the port number to 995.
  17. Select the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" item in the left menu.
  18. Select "Always" under "Use secure connection (SSL):," and click "OK."

To read your messages, click the "Read Messages" link under the Email category (toward the top of the page) and enter your Yahoo! password.

Netscape Versions 4.5, 4.61, and 4.7

Important: Before you delete your current settings, make sure you write them down so you can check email from that account after you make these changes. Older versions of Netscape allow you to specify only one POP server and one SMTP server at a time. Once you have done so, please follow these steps:

  1. From the Edit menu on the toolbar, select "Preferences."
  2. Under the Mail & Newsgroups category on the left, select "Mail Servers." If you do not see "Mail Servers," click the plus sign (+) to display more categories.
  3. Click "Add" to display the Mail Server Properties dialog box.
  4. In the "Server name" box, type: pop.bizmail.yahoo.com.
  5. Under "Server Type," click the pull-down menu and select "POP3 Server."
  6. Under "User Name," type your Yahoo! ID.
  7. Check "Remember password" so you don't have to reenter your password each time you start Messenger. You will be prompted for your password initially.
  8. If you want to keep messages in your Yahoo! Business Email mailbox after they have been retrieved, select the "POP" tab and check the box labeled "Leave messages on server."
  9. Click "OK."
  10. In the "Outgoing mail server user name" box, type your Yahoo! ID .
  11. Under "Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages:," select the "Always" radio button.
  12. Click "OK."
  13. Under the "Mail & Newsgroups" category on the left, select "Identity."
  14. In the Email Address box, type your full Yahoo! Business Email address (for example, linda@learn2yoga.com).
  15. Click "OK."
