What happens if my account is overdue?

When your account is past due, Yahoo! will attempt to notify you by email and with online alerts in your account. The emails and online alerts will convey the current past due status of your account. You should immediately take steps to update your billing information to bring your account back into good standing.

To update your payment information:

  1. Go to the Service Summary page at https://billing.yahoo.com to view a list of your active services.
  2. Next to the plan name you'd like to edit, click "Update Payment Method."
  3. On the following page, you can update the payment information for this service in one of two ways:
    a) To edit the card you are currently using to pay for your service, click the "Edit" button, edit the card, and click "Continue."
    b) To switch to a different card, click the "Add a new payment method" link in the upper-right corner, select or add a different card, and click "Continue."

Yahoo! will attempt to authorize your credit card for the full amount of the past-due invoice. If your card is authorized, your account will become active within one hour. You should no longer see the online alerts in your account.

If you continue to see alert messages more than one hour after updating your billing information, or if messages appear in your account days later, please contact customer care.

Suspension
If you fail to update your billing information, your account will be suspended. When your account is suspended, the domain associated with your account will no longer be accessible. This affects your account in the following ways:

  • Visitors to your domain will see a standard "page cannot be displayed" error.
  • Mail to your domain will bounce back to the sender.
  • You cannot upgrade or downgrade your service, or order new services.

Note: If your account was suspended, it can take up to 24 hours for your DNS (domain name server) information to be updated and propagated across the Internet, during which time your domain will not be available and you will not be able to receive email. Learn more.

Account Closure
If you do not update your account within 15 days of account suspension, your account will be closed. If your account is closed due to a past-due invoice, you will not be able to reopen the account. We highly recommend updating your billing information immediately in order to avoid having your account closed.
