The Yahoo! Search results page offers a variety of features to help you find what you are searching for. The page is divided into four main sections:

Search results areas with captions

The Search box

  • The Search box shows the search words you entered.
  • Click one of the search category links above the Search box to change the type of search results returned; the More pull-down menu shows more search categories.

    Search category links
  • Click the arrow below the Search box to open Search Assist for examples of similar searches.
  • Choose from the Options pull-down menu to set up your Yahoo! Search preferences or to go to Advanced Search.

Web Results

  • Web Results are the most relevant webpages found by Yahoo! Search in response to your search words.
  • Web Results are generated from the billions of webpages discovered, crawled, and indexed by Yahoo! Search.
  • If the results aren't what you are looking for, please try some of our Search tips.

Sponsor Results

  • These results are advertisements.
  • The advertisers ask to have their ad appear when you enter specific words in the Search box. For example, if you search for digital cameras you might see Sponsor Results for websites that sell digital cameras.
  • The Yahoo! Search results page separates Sponsor Results from standard web results so that you can tell them apart.

The Left Navigation Area

  • Click Search Pad to keep track of the websites you choose from the search results and to make notes on them.
  • Click SearchScan to have Yahoo! alert you to sites with security concerns, such as viruses, spam, and other dangerous software.
  • Enhanced Results sites appear next. These are sites from specific categories of information that are relevant to your search. There are only a few sites for which the Enhanced Results are turned on by default. You can enable more Enhanced Results to show even better results.
