Important Notice

The transfer period has ended and you can no longer transfer your Yahoo! Music Unlimited account to Rhapsody. The Yahoo! Music Unlimited services have also closed. The Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription service and the Music Store for purchased downloads are no longer available and will not re-open.

SUBSCRIPTIONS TO YAHOO! MUSIC UNLIMITED

If you were a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscriber who did not migrate to Rhapsody Unlimited, your subscription has been canceled and access to the music in the Yahoo! Music Unlimited catalog is no longer available. You will no longer have access to the LAUNCHcast Plus stations and features included with your former Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription. Any subscription music you have saved to your computer or portable device will no longer play and the licenses for these tracks can no longer be refreshed.

If you had time remaining on your paid Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription after 9/30/2008, a pro rata refund has been issued to your account. If you had time remaining on a gift subscription after 9/30/2008, please contact Customer Care to request a refund.

TRACKS PURCHASED FROM THE YAHOO! MUSIC UNLIMITED MUSIC STORE

Any downloaded music tracks you purchased from the Yahoo! Music Unlimited store should continue to play on your existing authorized computers and devices, but will not play on those devices if you upgrade your operating system. Because Yahoo! is no longer supporting the digital rights management licensing keys for those tracks, you will not be able to transfer those tracks to any additional or previously unauthorized computers or devices. To preserve access to your downloaded music tracks, we strongly recommend you back up your purchased tracks to audio CDs.

If you have lost your ability to play or transfer previously authorized purchased music downloads, or have problems with the DRM system, Yahoo! Customer Care will provide users in the United States with a coupon to purchase replacement tracks from the Rhapsody Music Store. You must request a coupon from Customer Care before March 31, 2009. You may redeem the coupon after that date (Rhapsody coupons will expire on September 30, 2009), but you must request it before March 31, 2009. The Rhapsody MP3 store is not available for Canadian customers. The refund period for Canadian customers expired on December 31, 2008.

If you have an unredeemed gift certificate or credit to purchase track downloads from the Yahoo! Music Unlimited Music Store that was not transferred to Rhapsody, contact Customer Care.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rhapsody?

Rhapsody is a critically acclaimed digital music service that lets members stream all the songs they want, listen to continuous music channels, and buy the songs and albums they love the most. Rhapsody also provides a wealth of editorial information and recommendations that make it easy to discover new music.

I'm not a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscriber, can I still sign up?

Yahoo! Music Unlimited has closed and is no longer accepting new subscribers. If you are interested in subscription music, you can learn more about the Rhapsody subscription service by clicking here.

I transferred my Yahoo! Music Unlimited account to Rhapsody, but did not receive an email containing my password. How do I sign in?

You can reset your Rhapsody password Here. Make sure you use the email address you entered during the transfer process.

Please also check the spam folder of your email program.

I purchased music from the Yahoo! Music Unlimited Store. What happens to the music I purchased now that the service is shut down?

After Sept. 30th, tracks purchased via the Yahoo! Music Unlimited downloads store will still work and be playable on any computers they are on at the time, and will work with any existing devices. However, users will not be able to move the files to new computers or devices.

If you have purched music from the Yahoo! Music Unlimited downloads store, we encourage you to burn audio CDs to back up your purchased tracks. You should be able to back up your purchased music downloads to CD even after the September 30, 2008 closing date for the store.

For any consumers that have problems with their DRM licenses after the store closes, our customer care group will provide coupons to the Rhapsody MP3 store so they can purchase an equivalent collection of MP3s. You must request a coupon before March 31st, 2009. Coupons for the Rhapsody MP3 store will expire on September 30, 2009, but they must be requested by March 31, 2009.

We believe this plan will provide a fair deal to consumers who have purchased songs through the Yahoo! Music Unlimited service, and will assist users in making the transition beyond DRM to more flexible, reliable and consumer-friendly digital media.

I still had subscription time remaining on my Yahoo! Music Unlimited account. What happened to that time when I transfered to Rhapsody?

All unused subscription time on your Yahoo! Music Unlimited account was transferred to your appropriate Rhapsody membership. You will not lose any subscription time during the transfer.

If I transfered, when will Rhapsody bill me for my Rhapsody membership?

Your first billing date on Rhapsody will be the same date as what your next billing date would have been on Yahoo! Music Unlimited. This date will vary depending on your billing “anniversary” date, your payment plan (monthly, quarterly or annual) and any special promotions you may have applied to your account.

In other words, there will be no interruption in either your billing or your service.

How will you address the pricing disparity between Rhapsody Unlimited ($12.99 per month) and Yahoo! Music Unlimited ($8.99 per month)?

Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscribers who migrate to Rhapsody Unlimited will enjoy Rhapsody Unlimited at the then-current Yahoo! Music Unlimited prices for a limited time:

  • Month-to-month subscribers who migrate will continue to receive Rhapsody Unlimited Service at the Yahoo! price of $8.99 for at least three months ($14.99 for Rhapsody To Go), after which pricing will be determined by Rhapsody.
  • Annual subscribers will receive the balance of their subscription year without a change in price. Pricing for subsequent annual subscriptions will be determined by Rhapsody.

Is Rhapsody lacking any content that Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscribers previously had access to?

The Rhapsody catalog is much more extensive than the Yahoo! Music Unlimited catalog. While the Rhapsody Unlimited catalog and MP3 Store have millions of tracks available, its library may not necessarily include precisely the same tracks available through Yahoo! Music Unlimited.

When will the Yahoo! Music Unlimited premium service stop accepting new subscribers? When will the service officially sunset?

Yahoo! is no longer accepting new subscribers for Yahoo! Music Unlimited. The Yahoo! Music Unlimited is now closed and will not re-open.

Will you issue refunds for users who don’t transfer to Rhapsody?

Yes, if a subscriber does not transfer before the end of the transfer period, Yahoo! will issue a pro rata refund for any time remaining in their subscription once the service is terminated. It may take some time for the refund process to complete and we expect all refunds to be processed by October 15, 2008.

Does it cost anything to transfer to the Rhapsody Unlimited Service?

No, transferring your subscription will not cost anything.

Can Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscribers opt out if they don’t want to transfer to Rhapsody?

Yes, The migration is voluntary. Access to Yahoo! Music Unlimited has now been terminated for these subscribers and the transfer period has ended.

I purchased tracks and albums through Yahoo! Music Unlimited. Can I play them in Rhapsody?

Yes. Yahoo!-purchased tracks can be imported into and played in Rhapsody. After you install the Rhapsody software, Rhapsody will prompt you to import the files on your computer, including tracks and albums you purchased in Yahoo! Music Unlimited.

We strongly recommend you back up your purchased tracks to CDs in the event that they do not play successfully in Rhapsody.

Will I still be able to play the tracks I purchased through Yahoo! Music Unlimited after the store closes on September 30, 2008?

Yes. Tracks you purchased from us will continue to play after the store is closed. However, after the store has closed, you will not be able to transfer songs to another computer or re-license these songs after changing operating systems. Please note that your purchased tracks will generally continue to play on your existing authorized computers unless there is a change to the computer's operating system.

For any user who purchased tracks through Yahoo! Music Unlimited, we highly recommend that you back up the purchased tracks to an audio CD before the closing of the Store on September 30, 2008.

If I accidentally delete a purchased track from my computer, how do I get it back?

I have unused download credits still in my Yahoo! Music Unlimited account. What should I do?

If you transfered your account to Rhapsody, your track purchase credit balance was also transferred to Rhapsody, where the credits can also be used to purchase tracks. If you still have downloads credit and did not transfer to Rhapsody, you must contact customer care.

Will the Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription (non-purchased) tracks that I downloaded to my computer or portable device play in Rhapsody?

No. Rhapsody does not use the same track licensing service that Yahoo! does, so those tracks’ licenses will eventually expire and the tracks will become unplayable.
