How do resolve an error that says "Unable to play media (unresponsive)"?

There are a number of reasons why you might be seeing this error. Because it can be caused by a number of different things, we suggest you try the steps below, in order, and check to see if the problem clears after each one. That is, try the first solution, see if it fixes the problem, and if not, move on to the next one.

Solution 1: Reinstall Windows Media Player
  1. Make sure to exit Windows Media Player. If you don't, the uninstall will fail.
  2. At the bottom left of your Windows screen, click the "Start" button.
  3. Depending on your Windows version, select "Settings" and then 'Control Panel', or just look for 'Control Panel' in the menu shown when you click 'Start.'
  4. Open 'Control Panel.'
  5. Double-click or select "Add/Remove Programs."
  6. In the top section of the Add / Remove program section you will see a small check box saying 'Show updates', select that.
  7. Under that remove anything that is related to the Windows media player 11 and you will have successfully uninstalled Windows Media Player 11.

Now, reinstall Windows Media Player. Click here to get it, then follow the instructions for installation.

If the above solution does not work, try the next approach:

Solution 2: Reinstall the Yahoo Music Jukebox and reboot

Here's how:
  1. Make sure you exit the Yahoo! Music Jukebox. If you don't, the uninstall will fail.
  2. Click the Windows "Start" button.
  3. Select "Settings."
  4. Double-click the "Control Panel" icon to start it.
  5. Double-click "Add/Remove Programs."
  6. In the list of applications, select "Yahoo! Music Jukebox."
  7. Click "Remove."
  8. Click "Next."
  9. Click "Finished."

If you see a message that the uninstall process failed, hang in there! There’s another way to get this fixed. Here’s what to do:
  1. Install the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, following the instructions below.
  2. Uninstall the application by performing the above steps again.
  3. Reinstall the Yahoo! Music Jukebox again:

Reinstall the Yahoo! Music Jukebox:
  1. Close all running applications except for Internet Explorer.
  2. Download the latest version of the Yahoo! Music Jukebox: Click here for US version or here for Canada version.
  3. Click "Save" when prompted (do not select "Run") and download the .exe to the Desktop.
  4. From the Desktop, double-click the ymjsetup.exe installer file (ymjsetup.exe) and follow the onscreen instructions. Please note: It can take up to 25 minutes to download the installer file. Also, the program takes up to 18 MB of free space on your computer.
  5. After installing, click the Yahoo! Music Jukebox icon on your Desktop to start.
  6. Sign in using your Yahoo! ID.

Solution 3: Set the right connection speed in the Yahoo! Music Jukebox

Under Edit > Preferences > General > Audio Settings > Bandwidth, make sure the connection speed is correct.

Solution 4: Disable all Audio enhancements

On Windows XP:
  1. Go to the ‘Control Panel’
  2. Choose ‘Sound’
  3. Highlight the Signatel device and choose ‘Properties’
  4. Go to the ‘Enhancement’ tab, and click "Disable all Enhancements"

On Vista:
  1. Go to Control panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices.
  2. Select the Sigmatel device and click Properties.
  3. Select the Enhancements tab and check the box "Disable All Enhancements."
  4. Click OK until you are back where you started

Solution 5: Enable all streaming protocols in Windows Media Player preferences

On WMP 11:

Go to Tools > Options > Network, and ensure RTSP\UDP , RTSP\TCP and HTTP are enabled.

Solution 6: (Vista only)

Some systems have a “DisableProtectedAudioDG” set to 0x1 Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windwos\CurrentVersion\Audio. Reset this to 0x0

Solution 7: (Vista only) Disable Network Auto tuning

Open a command prompt (Start > Run > CMD) (You must be administrator). Then type: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
