What is My Music Profile?
Express and share your music tastes with the Yahoo! community through My Music Profile. Here, you can write a text description of your Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Plus or music tastes and display the music you like to other users. They can then view your favorite artists and listen to your customized radio station.
You can also use your profile to administer your personal music choices, including managing discovery settings for Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Radio, Explicit Lyrics filter, and more. This is also the place to view your Influencers and Followers -- the members you choose to impact your music tastes, and those who look to you for music recommendations, and browse members whose tastes are similar to your own.
Note: You must be online and logged in to the Yahoo! Music Jukebox in order to view or change My Music Profile.
View/Edit My Music Profile:
- Click Y! Unlimited in the left navigation pane.
- Click View My Music Profile at the top right.
- On the profile page, you can create or edit your music self-description in About My Music by clicking the Edit button. In the text box underneath, describe your music tastes. Other users will see this description. Click the Save button.
- You may also hide your music profile from public view. To do this, simply click Hide Profile and it will not show to others. You may always make it public again by returning to My Music Profile and clicking Make Public.
To rate music:
You can rate music anywhere on the Yahoo! Music Jukebox where you see the four-star rating tool. When you rate music, your ratings are stored and collected here, in My Ratings under the My Music Tastes tab. Your ratings are used to provide you with recommended music based on your tastes and to create your personalized Yahoo! LAUNCHcast radio station.
If you've just started using the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, you'll be prompted to use the Personalization Wizard to rate music when you first open your profile. Use this tool to start rating genres and popular artists.
If you have already set up your profile, you can manage your ratings here.
- Click Y! Unlimited in the left navigation pane.
- Click View My Music Profile at the top right.
- Under My Music Taste, click the Edit button.
- View and edit your ratings for artists, albums, songs, and genres. Hint: Rate genres first. Highlight one to four stars and then click.
- For artists that you really like, click Similar Artists to rate them as well. The more you rate, the better My Recommendations become.
Manage My Listening Preferences:
My Listening Preferences determines how you hear music on the Yahoo! Music Jukebox. Note that this is different from the Preferences selection under the Edit menu in the top-level pulldown. Those Preferences refer to technical administration of the Jukebox; this refers only to how you hear personalized music.
On My Music Profile, click Edit next to My Listening Preferences, under My Music Tastes. Here you can adjust your music Discovery settings, which affect the music you hear on your customized radio station, and you can indicate whether or not you want to hear songs with explicit lyrics.
Find Members with Similar Music Tastes:
- Click Y! Unlimited in the left navigation pane.
- Click View My Music Profile at the top right.
- On your Music Profile page, under Music Community, click Members with Similar Music Tastes. Here you'll see members whose favorite music is similar to your own.
- Click their user ID to see what they listen to, and to find out who influences them. If you like their tastes, click Add as Influencer on their profile page (Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Plus or Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscribers only).
View and Administer Influencers:
Influencers are members whose music tastes you like. When you choose Influencers, songs they rate highly are more likely to play on your Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Radio station and appear in your recommendations. Note: you must be a Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Plus or Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscriber to use Influencers.
You can add Influencers in two ways:
- If you know the user ID of another Yahoo! member, go to the search bar available on the homepage, Y! Unlimited and Yahoo! LAUNCHcast, and select Member in the drop-down. Type that person's Yahoo! ID into the search box and click Go. When you see the results, click on the ID for the profile you wish to view. You can then click Add as Influencer at the top of the page.
- To browse for other members with tastes like yours, look under Music Community on My Music Profile (see instructions for accessing, above) and click Members with Similar Music Taste. In the list of names, click Yahoo! ID to view a user's profile. If you like that user's tastes, click Add as Influencer to make that person an Influencer.
View My Followers:
Followers are people who have chosen you as their Influencer. From the Music Community section, click My Followers to find out which users follow your music tastes. Note: you must be a Yahoo! LAUNCHcast Plus or Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscriber to use the Influencers and Followers features.
Finding Other Members:
You can use the search box in the Music Community section of your profile to find any other user of the Yahoo! Music Engine. Type in someone's Yahoo! ID and click Go. You'll get a list of matching members. Just click on any user ID to check out another member's Profile.
My Yahoo! Profile:
You can also view your Yahoo! Member Profile by clicking on Open My Yahoo! Member Profile. This will open in a separate browser window.
