Gift Certificate FAQs

What are the two types of gifts that can be given with Yahoo! Music Unlimited?
You may give a dollar value gift certificate or a subscription gift certificate.
A dollar-value gift certificate allows the recipient to purchase as many burnable download tracks as they wish, up to the limit of the gift. Burnable downloads are generally .99 each and albums are usually $9.99 (subscribers to Yahoo! Music Unlimited can buy burnable downloads for .79 each). These are downloaded WMA song files that can be played any time, burned to CD, and do not expire.
Subscription gift certificates give the recipient 3 months or 1 year of Yahoo! Music Unlimited, the music subscription service that offers more than 2 million songs to save, play and enjoy. The recipient can make playlists, share with friends through Yahoo! Messenger, and enjoy any and all of the songs in the library for the duration of the term. When the term is complete, the recipient may choose to continue their subscription; if so, all the songs in the playlists they saved will continue to be available to them. Subscribers to Yahoo! Music Unlimited may also purchase burnable downloads at a discount.
-
If a gift certificate for burnable downloads is purchased, can an amount be applied to a new or existing Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription account?
No. A dollar-value gift can only be applied to burnable downloads, not to any Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription.
-
Is a Yahoo! Music Unlimited gift certificate transferable to other Yahoo! services?
No. The recipient may only use a Yahoo! Music Unlimited gift certificate for the purpose purchased, i.e., for burnable downloads or a subscription. It is not transferable to other Yahoo! services.
-
Can the music given as a gift be used on portable music players?
Burnable downloads can be transferred to players that work with Windows Media. Yahoo! Music Unlimited burnable downloads are in Windows Media format, and will not play on the iPod. Subscription music, i.e., the songs that the recipient will enjoy as part of a subscription gift, can only be transferred to a portable player if:
- The recipient upgrades to Yahoo! Music Unlimited “To Go”, the portable music option (extra charge).
-
What if the gift recipient did not receive the email with the redemption code?
If you sent a gift and received a confirmation that the order was completed successfully, and the intended recipient never received the email, you may want to ask the recipient first to check their Junk or Bulk Mail folder(s). Many applications such as AOL and Hotmail route mail from unrecognized addresses to the Junk or Bulk folder. If the recipient does not find the redemption email in those locations, contact Yahoo! Music Customer Care.
-
Can I get a refund for the gift certificate?
No. Once you agree to the terms of purchase, a gift certificate is non-refundable.

What is a Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription gift certificate and what does it mean?
A Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription gift certificate is a gift of either 3 months or 1 year of the Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription service. The music service provides access to more than 2 million songs from the massive Yahoo! music database – new releases, classics, favorites, all time hits, and more. The service allows subscribers to search for and save any song or album in the library. The music service is accessed through the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, a free, standalone music player that lets users rip and burn CDs, make playlists, share with friends, and more. The Yahoo! Music Jukebox also makes customized music recommendations based on a listener’s tastes, and connects the listener with millions of other Yahoo! music fans, to learn about and share their music tastes as well.
The subscription gift certificate gives the recipient unrestricted access to the library of over 2 million songs for the duration of the gift. The recipient must download the free Yahoo! Music Jukebox to their desktop to enjoy the subscription, and they may keep and enjoy the Jukebox after their subscription expires. The subscription songs will become non-playable if the gift subscription ends and is not renewed. However, the playlists, ratings and music saved as part of the Yahoo! Music Unlimited gift subscription are stored in the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, so if the recipient decides to subscribe again at a later date, or they receive another gift subscription, the music will become playable in the playlists, and with the ratings they already saved.
