Using Now Playing

Now Playing appears in the column on the right side of Yahoo! Music Jukebox. This is a powerful tool for creating playlists, capturing and exploring new music from many Yahoo! Music Jukebox features, and much more. Now Playing works differently with each feature of the Yahoo! Music Jukebox. Read below to find out what you can do with the Now Playing window using various Yahoo! Music Jukebox features.

Primarily you will use Now Playing as a "scratch playlist" to make playlists that you can then save, transfer to portable devices, burn to CD and more. Now Playing also keeps track of all the music you played during your session; if you want to return to a song, see who performed it, etc., look here. This is especially useful as it keeps track of songs played on your LAUNCHcast station.

To find out how powerful playlists are, and what you can do with them, see Using Playlists.

Make a Playlist

By default, you will see Now Playing on the right side so you can create a playlist from any music you’re enjoying. Simply drag music -- songs, artists, genres, etc., where applicable -- from My Music into Now Playing to create an instant playlist. You can also use the right-click menu from a song title and select Add to Now Playing. Buttons at the top of Now Playing allow you to clear the playlist, save it, burn it to CD, and more. For full details, see Create a New Playlist.

Using Now Playing With Other Features of the Yahoo! Music Jukebox

LAUNCHcast Radio:

When you play your customized LAUNCHcast station, or any mood or featured station, Now Playing keeps track of each song played. It creates a playlist of your entire listening session.

Messenger Music:

You can drag a song from Now Playing directly to the name of a friend in Messenger Music. They will be alerted that you wish them to hear the song. If your friend subscribes to Yahoo! Music Unlimited, they’ll be able to hear the whole song as well. If you’re listening to another friend’s music, that music will also be stored and displayed in Now Playing.

Transfer to Portable Devices:

You can instantly move tracks from Now Playing to an attached portable device. (Note that portable players have some restrictions: you must have Yahoo! Music Unlimited To Go if you want to take subscription music on your player; and you must be sure the player is compatible with the track’s file type. See Yahoo! Music Jukebox Compatible Portable Devices for more information).

Click Actions then select Transfer to Portable. Select the device you wish to add the music to. If you wish to save the list as a playlist on the Yahoo! Music Jukebox, click Save, give it a name, and it will be added to Playlists in the left navigation pane.

When you transfer to portable devices, the Yahoo! Music Jukebox checks to be sure all songs have permission (licenses) to transfer. If there are problems with any of the selected tracks, you will see a message indicating the status.

Burn a CD:

You can instantly burn all the tracks in Now Playing to a CD. Simply insert a blank CD and click the burn icon at the top of the column. If any problems exist with the tracks for burning, you will be notified and guided through resolution. Note that Yahoo! Music Unlimited subscription tracks can not be burned to CD.
