Just above the area where you type your messages, click the smiley face to open the “emoticon” gallery. Click the one you want to add. Also, while you hover your pointer over a face, you’ll see which keys you can type on your keyboard to make the face. For example, you can either click the face with the big toothy smile, or type :D. LOL!
