Sometimes a corrupt file can lead to persistent error messages. Uninstalling and reinstalling Yahoo! Messenger can fix this problem. To do that:

1. Click the Windows “Start” icon in the lower-left corner of your screen.
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click Programs and Features.
4. From the list that appears, click Yahoo! Messenger for Vista, then click Uninstall.

After un-installation is complete, visit this page to download and install Yahoo! Messenger Vista again, from scratch.
