If you use an HTTP proxy to connect to the internet, here's what to do:

1. Click Messenger, and select "Preferences."
2. Click Connection from the list on the left.
3. Select the "Connect via a proxy server option."
4. Select "HTTP proxy." Any settings for the proxy (like name and password) can be specified in Internet Explorer.

If you connect with a SOCKS proxy, under Connect via a proxy server, select "SOCKS proxy," then fill in the remaining fields:

• server name
• port
• user ID
• password

When you're finished:

1. Click Apply.
2. Click OK.

And you’re done!
