Yahoo! Messenger utilizes your default web browser application when accessing links received through an instant message, or one a contact sets as their Status Message.
To make your preferred web browser of choice to be the default web browser, follow the instructions below for your specific web browser to configure it to be the default application. You may also want to check the specific web browser's help files for instructions to verify correct configuration.
For Internet Explorer 6.X
- Open the Internet Explorer Application
- Select "Tools" from the Menu Bar and select "Internet Options."
- Click "Programs."
- Check the box "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser."
- Uncheck this option to disable this feature.
- Click "Apply."
- Click "OK."
For Internet Explorer 7.X
- Open the Internet Explorer Application
- Select "Tools" from the Menu Bar.
- Select "Internet Options."
- Click "Programs."
- Click "Make default" (if Internet Explorer is already the default web browser, this button will not be available).
- Click "OK."
Please note: For changes within Internet Explorer, you may need to close all windows or reboot your computer for the changes to take affect.
For Mozilla Firefox 1.x
- Open the Mozilla Firefox Application
- Select "Tools" from the Menu Bar.
- Select "Options."
- Click "General"
- Click "Check Now" under the "Default Browser" section
- Click "Yes" to set Mozilla Firefox as your default browser (if Mozilla is already your default browser, you'll need to click "OK."
- Click "OK" to close the "Options" menu.
For Mozilla Firefox 2.x
- Open the Mozilla Firefox Application.
- Select "Tools" from the Menu Bar.
- Select "Options."
- Click "General."
- Click "Check Now" under the "System Defaults" section.
- Click "Yes" to set Mozilla Firefox as your default browser (if Mozilla is already your default browser, you'll need to click "OK."
- Click "OK" to close the "Options" menu
