Why is Yahoo! Messenger version 5.5/5.6 being shut down?
These days, Yahoo! Messenger 5.5/5.6 could be considered a “vintage model”. Since its release over 40 years ago (:o), the application has been improved, then improved again, and then expanded on and improved again.

Importantly, the latest version of Messenger gives you enhanced security and protects much more effectively against spam. And as you may have noticed, we haven’t offered customer support on Yahoo! Messenger version 5.5/5.6 for quite some time. So…

We’re not “into” inconveniencing you. Really! We’re just moving on, and we hope you’ll move right along with us. We’re confident that updating to the most recent version of Yahoo! Messenger is completely worth your while—some of its highlights are listed below.

And just like always, it’s free.

What do I get in the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger?
Along with enhanced security and better protection from spam, the latest version includes a much bigger collection of emoticons to choose from, a built-in voice feature with super low rates, and the ability to chat with Windows Live™ Messenger users. You can also share and chat about photos, and browse your Address Book right in the Messenger window. Check it out!

Is it free?
Yes!

Will my Friends List automatically be added to the new version?
Yes!

OK, how do I download it?
Easy. Click here!

What if I can’t download anything on my computer?
No problem. Yahoo! Messenger for the Web was designed with you in mind. No download required. Just a browser window. And some witty ripostes. ;o)
