If you've added a friend to your list, but that friend is no longer shown, there are several possible reasons for this:
If you see something other than your Friend List such as a news or stock page, it's possible that you don't have the "Friends" tab selected. Here's how to find it:
- In the main Yahoo! Messenger window, click the "View" menu.
- Make sure the "Content Bar" menu option is selected.
- On the Content Bar (at the bottom of your Friend List), choose the tab that looks like a smiley person along side two smiley faces. This is your Friends tab.
You may have checked the "Show Only Online Friends" option, which would cause your friend not to show up if the friend is not currently online. If that's not the reason, try this:
- Click the "View" menu at the top of the Yahoo! Messenger screen, and look for "Show Only Online Friends."
- Make sure this option is not checked, or you won't see all your friends.
- You may have accidentally ignored a friend's ID. Make sure that no one has ignored anyone else. Both you and anyone you're having trouble communicating with need to follow these steps:
- From the main Yahoo! Messenger window, pull down the "Login" menu.
- Click "Privacy Settings."
- Make sure that your friend is not listed. If they are, click on the name to highlight it, then click "Remove" on the right.
If that wasn't the problem, hang in there! We'll get this figured out. Both of you should try removing the friend from your list, then re-adding them. Again, both of you will need to do this:
- Right-click on the friend's name.
- Click "Delete."
- Click "Add" at the top of the Yahoo! Messenger window. You'll be asked how you'd like to add a friend (by Yahoo! ID, Email Address or you can Search for a friend.)
- Select an option and click "Next."
- Follow the appropriate steps. Remember to use your friend's Yahoo! ID when you add them. Once you've added your friend, you should see their name in your Friend List.
One of the steps above should solve your problem.
