It’s really easy to import contacts from other applications. Here’s how:

1. Click the Contacts menu.
2. Select Import Contacts.

Then you can import contacts from your Yahoo! Address Book, Outlook, and other services like Gmail, Hotmail, AOL, MySpace and many more. Just select the services you want to import from and provide the account information for each.

If you import contacts from Microsoft Outlook, depending on your security settings, a pop-up message may appear warning you that a program is trying to access email addresses stored in Outlook and asking your permission to allow it. If this message appears, click the check box Allow access for, leaving the default time of 1 minute, and click Yes.

Yahoo! Messenger will fetch all your contacts and show you which friends are already using Yahoo! Messenger. You can add those friends to your Contact List immediately. Then you can select which friends you want to send an email invitation to, asking them to join you on Yahoo! Messenger.
