Chances are, Yahoo! Messenger can’t access your microphone because Windows thinks it’s already in use by another program. One of the following steps should correct the problem (try them in order):

1. Every so often, this error is also displayed if system resources are very low. To solve this, close all other applications running on your computer.
2. Restart Yahoo! Messenger.
3. Shut down and restart your computer.
