The Yahoo! Message Boards Profanity Filter has two filter strength options. After you've registered and signed in with your Yahoo! ID, go to the Message Boards Settings page by clicking the "Message Boards Settings" link. It should be located in the upper-right corner of every page on Message Boards. You are automatically sent into the Profanity Settings section.

1. To filter words that match the exact spelling of commonly used profanity, check the box next to "Only filter exact word matches." This is commonly referred to as "weak filtering."
2. To filter on misspellings and permutations in addition to the exact matches, check the box next to "Filter exact matches and most spelling variations." This is commonly referred to as "strong filtering."

For example, if the Profanity Filter were to react to the word "Yahoo!," under the weak setting, only "Yahoo!" would be blocked by the Profanity Filter, whereas under the strong setting, variations such as "Yahooooo!," "Yehoo!," and "Yahew!" would be filtered.
