You can configure your POP3 client to leave messages on the Yahoo! Mail server or to delete them from the server. Check the instructions for configuring POP settings for your mail client.
To learn the steps, select from the list of supported clients:
Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003
- From the Tools menu, choose Email Accounts.
- Select the radio button next to View or change existing email accounts and click the Next button.
- Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click Change...
- Click the More Settings... button.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, is the box next to Leave a copy of messages on server checked? Good…if you want to keep your messages on the server. If you want to delete your messages from the Yahoo! Mail server, un-check this box.
- From the Tools menu, select Account Settings
- Highlight the Yahoo! Mail account and click Change
- In the new window, click More Settings in the lower right hand corner
- Click the Advanced tab
- Under Delivery, check the box Leave a copy of messages on the server
- From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
- Click the Mail tab.
- Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Check Leave a copy of messages on server if you want to keep your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you've downloaded them in Outlook Express, don't check this box.
- Click OK.
- Close Microsoft Outlook, and reboot.
- From the Tools menu, choose Accounts.
- Select the Mail tab.
- Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click Properties.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- In the Delivery section at the bottom of the window, check Leave a copy of messages on server if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you've downloaded them in Outlook Express, don't check this box.
- Click Tools, then Accounts from the menu bar.
- Highlight the Yahoo! account you wish to change and click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab, then check the Leave a copy of messages on server checkbox..
- Click OK to close the Properties window, then click Close to close the Internet Accounts window.
- Launch Thunderbird and select Tools from the top menu.
- Select Account Settings from the pull-down list.
- Select Server Settings from the window on the left hand side.
- Place a check in the box labeled Leave messages on server.
- Click OK
- Go to Tools and choose Accounts.;
- Under the Mail tab choose the Account and click the Edit button.
- In the Edit Account dialog box, choose the tab Options.
- Under the Server options, check the option Leave a copy of each message on the server.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Click Menu in the tool bar and select Preferences.
- Click the Accounts icon, select your Yahoo! Mail account and hit the Edit button.
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Locate and uncheck the box next to Remove copy from server after retrieving a message if you want to store messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and your computer.
- From the Tools menu, select Accounts.
- Click the Mail tab.
- Select your Yahoo! Mail account and click Properties.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Check Leave a copy of messages on server if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you've downloaded them in IncrediMail, don't check this box.
- Click the Tools menu and select Options.
- Click the picture on the left that says Incoming Mail.
- Check Delete from server after… if you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! Mail server after you've downloaded them in Eudora. However, if you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on the Yahoo! Mail server, don't check this box.
- From the Tools menu, select Mail and Chat Accounts.
- Select the Yahoo! Mail account, and then click Edit.
- Go to the Incoming tab.
- Select Leave messages on server.
- Click OK.
