How do I start a new message?

Here are two ways to start a message:

  • Click the "Compose" button in the upper-left corner.
  • Type the letter "n" when you're in the Inbox.

Either way, a new tab opens for you to compose a message. Do you see it, along the top of the window? The tab says "Compose" and has a small picture of a pencil on it. The other tab says "Inbox" (or some other folder name).

Tabs are clickable, so you can click another tab to easily check the contents of another folder or the contents of another message, and then return to the message you were composing. Want to see? Click the "Inbox" tab. You'll see the contents of your Inbox. Double-click any message, and it opens in a third tab. Now you can click from tab to tab, Inbox, Compose, or the title of the message you opened. Tabbity tab tab click click click.

You can even search all your messages using the Search window just below the "Check Mail" and "Compose" buttons, and the search results open under another tab.

Do any or all these things, without losing the message you've composed so far.

You couldn't do this before! Before, if you wanted to check another message while you were composing, you'd usually lose everything you'd written up to that point. Not fun! Yay, tabs!
