Yes! As a matter of fact, you’ve got three different ways to control how messages are sorted and displayed in your Inbox and other folders:

  1. The View link, just above the list of messages in your Inbox and other folders
  2. Column headings
  3. Filters

1. The View link

By clicking on All Messages (in small type, after the word “View:”, above your list of messages), you’ll see a pull-down menu where, instead of displaying All Messages, you can choose to display only Unread Messages, for example. Or only Messages with Attachments. You can also choose to show only Flagged Messages, or Messages from My Contacts.

2. Column headings

At first, Yahoo! Mail displays all your messages and organizes them by date. The most recent emails you’ve received appear at the top.

By clicking on that column’s title—Date—you can swap the order from newest-to-oldest to oldest-to-newest, so your oldest messages are on top. Click again to switch it back.

Others are the Sender and Subject columns. Sender tells you who messages are from! Nice how that works. Click Sender to alphabetize senders from Z—A (descending order), or click again to list them from A—Z.

Subject works the same way, and can be alphabetized backwards or forwards by clicking Subject, then clicking it again. And again. And again?

3. Filters

You can use Filters to organize your mail. Yahoo! Mail Filters don’t block mail, they steer messages as they arrive into different folders.

To set up a new filter, click Options in the upper right corner of your Mail page. Under “Management”, click Filters. Click Add, give the filter a name, and choose from a variety of options to automatically direct certain messages into a specific folder. For example, send any messages you get from your family into a folder called “Family”. Handy! When you’re done, click Add Filter.
