A Secret (or Security) Question provides you with a second level of security beyond your normal Yahoo! ID and password. You may be asked your Secret Question when you need a new password, technical support or questions about your billing.
To change your secret question or answer:
- Sign in (before you can update your Secret Question, you must be signed in to the account to be updated).
- Click here to display the Yahoo! Sign in & Registration Help Form.

- In the Name box, type your first and last name, and press Tab.
- In the Date of Birth box, type your date of birth in the format mo/day/year (for example, 12/15/1982), and press Tab.
- In the Zip/Postal Code box, type your ZIP code or postal code, and press Tab.
- In the Alternate Email Address box, if you have one, type an email address other than your Yahoo! email address, and press Tab. Yahoo! will send correspondence to the alternate email address if you lose access to your Yahoo! email address.

- In the Security Answer box, type the answer to your current Security Question, and press Tab.

- In the Security Answer box, type the answer to your second Security Question, and press Tab. Otherwise, just press Tab to skip this field.
- In the Subject pull-down menu, select the subject that best describes what you need help with.
- In the Additional Information box, type a clear description of the problem, including steps to replicate the error and any error messages you saw.
- In the Email Address box, type an email address where we can contact you, and press Tab.
- In the Confirm Email Address box, type the email address again to confirm you entered it correctly, and press Tab.
- Click Submit.
Note: You must be able to verify the existing Answer to your Security Question for it to be updated.
In most cases, you only need to verify your Security Question if you:
- Have not provided an alternate email address or mobile phone associated with your account
- No longer have access to the alternate email address or mobile phone associated with your account
We strongly suggest that you add and verify an active alternate email address or mobile phone for your account. Yahoo! uses your alternate email address to communicate with you if you no longer have access to your Yahoo! Mail account. To add or edit an alternate email address or mobile phone, please click here.
Note: A Security Question is not the same as a Security Key Question in Yahoo!.
