The Advanced Search page provides a variety of powerful options when searching Yahoo! Mail. You can search the message fields individually or in combinations of From, To, Subject, Message text, and/or Date. You can even specify how your search terms are evaluated, choosing whether the message field "contains," or "does not contain," the terms you have entered. You can choose to search across all folders or within a single folder, including your Inbox, Sent, Trash, or other folders you have created.
Tips:
- Fill out only the fields you need. If you fill out too many fields, it will be more difficult to find messages that match. Advanced Search uses "and" logic when you use multiple search fields. For example, if you search on From: Bob and Subject: Meeting, the message must have both "Bob" as the sender and "Meeting" in the subject to match.
- Quotes and commas are not necessary to find a match when entering multiple search terms. The default is "contains" which means a message will match if it contains all of the search terms you enter for the field (in any order).
- If your search returns too many results, you can reduce the set by adding date criteria. You can use relative dating that allows you to quickly search for messages sent within the last week or last month without having to type in the actual date range.
- You can access the Advanced Search page in several ways: On any search results page, you can click on the Advanced Search link below the Refinement options. You can also click on the Search Mail button without any search terms entered in the search box. Finally, you can use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+S (pressing all of the keys at the same time).
