How do I set up my FTP tool?

To set up your FTP tool to work with your GeoCities Plus or Pro plan, you'll just need to enter your FTP settings. (Please note that FTP is not available with GeoCities Free.) You can find your personal FTP settings on the Create & Update and Manage tabs of your GeoCities Control Panel,

Open your tool and enter the following information:

GeoCities Pro:

  • host or address: ftp.widgetdesigns.com (replace widgetdesigns.com with your own domain name)
  • user or login: name@widgetdesigns.com (replace name with your Yahoo! ID, and widgetdesigns.com with your own domain name)
  • password: the password you use to sign in to your Yahoo! account

GeoCities Plus:

  • host or address: ftp.geocities.com
  • user or login: your Yahoo! ID
  • password: the password you use to sign in to your Yahoo! account

The example below shows FTP settings entered in FileZilla.

Some tools will also ask for a remote directory. You can leave this field blank. (This information would instruct your tool to open the highest-level folder when it connects to your account, but your user name and password will do this automatically.)

After you enter your account information, click the "Connect," "Go," or similar button to activate a connection. (See your tool's documentation for detailed instructions.) Our computers will recognize your password and account information and open a path to your folders and files. As soon as you have connected with your account, you can begin transferring and organizing your files.

Please note that while your account settings remain the same no matter which tool you use, some tools might ask for those settings in different ways. See our instructions for setting up recommended tools.
