Yahoo! Games All-Star members can run their own tournaments using the built-in tournament tool.

To create a tournament, simply click the "Game Rooms" link in your League Tools. Determine the room you'd like to have your tournament in, then create the tournament.

Creating Tournaments

Using the tournament tool, you can set the following options:

  • Tournament Name
  • Playing At (location)
  • Tournament Description
  • Game Settings
  • Pairing System (see description below)
  • Sign Up Starts
  • Sign Up Ends
  • Min/Max Participants
  • Tourney Starts
  • Time Per Round
  • Private (only league members can sign up)

After setting these options, click "Create" to finish creating your tournament.

To cancel a tournament, simply click the "Cancel" link on the tournament overview page.

Note: Only public tourneys in open leagues that were created when the league was listed as an open league will be listed on the League Tournament Calendar. The list of tourneys in the game ante rooms (where the list of lounges is) will also only include public tourneys in open leagues that were created when the league was listed as an open league. As there are usually more available tournaments than spaces on this list, the tournaments that were created first will be displayed.

Pairing Systems

The two types of pairing systems are single elimination and free form. With single elimination, pairings are automatically assigned by the system. With free form, the tournament director assigns game pairings from the tournament overview page.

Joining Tournaments

To join an official Yahoo! Games All-Star tournament or to join another All-Star member's tournament, select an active tournament from their league page and then click "Register."

For partner games such as Spades, when you register for a tournament you also choose your partner when you register. On the registration page next to "Teammate," there's a box to enter your partner's ID. Enter their ID and then click "Register." It's important to note that your partner must also register for the tournament and enter your ID in the "Teammate" box. If you don't do this, or if one of you chooses another partner when registering, your registration will be rejected when the tournament starts.

Once you've registered for a tournament, go to the game room the tournament is scheduled in. When the tournament starts you'll get a message saying "You have a scheduled game at table X. Would you like to join?"

If there are openings in the tournament brackets, certain players will receive a "bye," meaning they have no game in that round.

If your opponent is a no-show, you'll automatically win and advance to the next round after the game time expires.

Finding a Partner

There are several ways to find a partner for a tournament:

  • Send an email to another All-Star member. You can find players in the ladder and non-ladder rooms and in tournament results. You can look up their email addresses by clicking on their names and going to their profiles. (Note: Not all players have elected to have their email address revealed)
  • Send them an instant message with Yahoo! Messenger
  • Post a message on the All-Star Discussion Board

Round Intervals

Each round begins when all games in the previous round are completed or when the maximum round time has expired. When the round time expires and there are unfinished games, a winner from those games is chosen by selecting the player who used less time in the match.

Withdrawing

To withdraw from a tournament, click "Withdraw."
