Yahoo! takes account privacy and security very seriously. If you haven’t added an alternate email address, mobile phone number, or secret question to your Account Information, Yahoo! will occasionally remind you to update your account with this information.

After you’ve added either an alternate contact email address or a mobile number, Yahoo! will send you message alerts whenever any changes are made to your account. If you don’t have an alternate email address or don’t want to use your mobile number, you can bypass these fields and choose two new Secret Questions and Answers instead.

When you keep your contact information up to date, it is more difficult for others to change your password. Also, if you need help logging in to your account in the future, having up-to-date info makes getting a new password much easier. For this reason, Yahoo! strongly recommends that you add a mobile number and at least one alternate email address to your account, although neither are required.
