The Yahoo! Directory is made up of categories. We ask that you suggest your site from the most appropriate category for your site. You can use Yahoo! Search to find the best category for your site:

An easy way to find the category where you should suggest your site is to look at categories where sites like yours are listed. When you search the Directory, the search results show the category where each site is listed. To search the Directory and see only sites listed in the Yahoo! Directory:

  • From the Yahoo! homepage, click the “more” link above the search box, then click “Directory” from the drop down options and continue your search. .
  • Easier still, begin your search on the Directory homepage.

Enter a few words that describe your site into the search box and click the Directory search button. The top of a Directory search results page is titled “Directory Results.” The results page lists “Directory Categories” related to your search and there is a “Category” link under each result showing the category where that result is listed. These category choices should give you an idea of where to suggest your site to the Yahoo! Directory.

When you click a category link, you go to that page in the Directory. The heading at the top of the page (starting with "Directory >") identifies the complete category path.

Once you locate the Directory category that relates to your site, click the "Suggest a Site" link located at the top of the page to suggest your site.

Also refer to: "How do I find an appropriate category to suggest my site?"

If you don't see a "Suggest a Site" link, you might be attempting to add your site to a category that only accepts submissions at the regional level. This happens most often for categories where the sites are applicable to a particular region (such as Lodging, Real Estate, and Internet Services). Please find the most specific geographic category for your site, submit it there, and Yahoo! editors will take care of the rest.

For example, if you were suggesting a site for a hotel in San Francisco, you would need to do it from this category:

/Regional/U_S__States/California/Cities/San_Francisco/Travel_and_Transportation/Lodging/Hotels/

If your site is accepted and added, it not only appears in the listings for San Francisco hotels, but is also accessible when browsing "by region" at:
