An online guide to the World Wide Web, Yahoo! Directory is a catalog of sites created by Yahoo! editors who visit and evaluate websites and then organize them into subject-based categories and subcategories. When categorizing websites, editors consider a number of factors, such as commercial versus noncommercial and regional versus global. All listings are organized within the categories displayed on the Directory’s front page.

You can browse through the Directory by looking through the category list on the left side of the Directory homepage and clicking various category links.

Yahoo Directory main page

Each link takes you to a list of more specific subcategories within that subject; clicking a link within the subcategory displays more categories to help you narrow your search until you reach a list of sites on a specific subject. For example, suppose you were interested in editorial cartoonists. Starting with the main category Entertainment, you’d click Comics and Animation, then Comic Strips, and then Editorial Cartoons. You would then see a list of websites for editorial cartoonists.

Example browse path

To search all websites, click the radio button next to the Web; to search only Yahoo! Directory sites, click the radio button next to the Directory (the default setting). You can find both options just above the Search box. On the Directory Results page, click any Related Directory Categories or the Directory Category links under a particular result to go to that category page in the Directory.
