Why is my site listed only in a regional category?

When reviewing a site, our editors try to establish whether or not the site is regionally relevant. For instance, if the site provides information about a specific region or directly affects or influences the daily life, work, or community participation of a person, organization, or business within that specific geographic area, it is considered regionally relevant.

Many, but not all, sites are placed in regional categories and placed in a corresponding category in the non-regional Yahoo! Directory. Sites are placed only in a regional category if they are determined to be solely applicable to a particular geographic area.

For example, a person in New York City looking for a hair salon most likely wants information on local businesses and not businesses out of the area. Therefore, the Manhattan hair salon site is listed in New York City only, under hair salons.

If you search for your site and only see a listing in a regional category, it is still possible that the site is also listed in additional categories in the Yahoo! Directory. Try browsing through some of the non-regional categories where you think your site might be listed. If it is listed, it is included in the alphabetical list of sites in the category.

If you would like to suggest a change to your listing, please do so through our online change form.
