Yahoo! Directory Guidelines for Submitting Descriptions

Your web site description should be a concise representation of what the site offers. In the case of business or commercial sites, it is simply a description of what the company does, or of the product(s) it offers.

Though you can suggest up to 25 words for review, most sites can be described well with far fewer words.

Our editors modify most descriptions that are submitted for review and determine exactly how your site description appears.

  • Description suggestions must be no longer than 25 words.
  • Please refrain from using any marketing language or slogans. For example, phrases such as "the best," "the first," "the only," "the leader (or leading)," "We're Number One," or "The Best on the Internet!" Anything that could be construed as marketing language should be avoided in the comment.
  • Descriptions should not contain words in all capital letters.
  • Please Do Not capitalize The First Letter Of Every Word.
  • Do not include HTML tags.
  • Do not restate the title of your site.
  • Descriptions containing only keywords will not be accepted.
  • Do not include numbers. Examples: "Offering over 200 products" or "We've been in business for 35 years."
  • Do not include name brands in the description. Example: "We have Rolex, Timex, and Tag Heuer watches."

All web sites listed in the Yahoo! Directory are cataloged by editors with the user in mind. Yahoo! editors modify most suggested descriptions, titles, and categories of sites that are submitted for review as we strive to accurately, dispassionately, and concisely reflect the content and nature of each site.
