- Know who you are dealing with. Only install applications from developers you know and trust. Just because an application works with a Yahoo! product or service, it does not mean Yahoo! knows or has control over the developer. Be careful about who has access to your personal information.
- If you no longer wish to allow your connections to share your information with third-party applications and developers, you may opt-out at any time from the Permissions Settings within your Yahoo! Profile.
- You may revoke permissions you granted to an application at any time. For the Yahoo! Application Platform, remove the application by choosing "Remove" from the application's Settings menu. For applications on third-party websites and other applications, visit your Yahoo! Account Info .
- Report abuse: If you come across a bad apple, please report them to Yahoo!.
- If you install a third-party application on Yahoo!, the application developer's terms of use and/or privacy policy will govern the relationship between you and the developer, including how information obtained by the application is treated. Also, because such applications will be installed on the Yahoo! network, Yahoo!'s Terms of Service will apply to your use of them.

- What is an application?
"Application" is another term for computer program. On Yahoo!, you should be aware of a few different types of applications made by third parties.
The first type of application is run using the Yahoo! Application Platform (YAP). These are the programs you are able to run on your Yahoo! Profile.
A second type of application is hosted and operated outside Yahoo! by a third-party developer.
- What is a developer?
A developer is a computer programmer who makes an application. Anyone can be a developer and build an application. It can be the teen down the street, a grandmother in Michigan, your favorite Internet company (other than Yahoo!, of course), a pair of brothers in Poland, or anyone else you can imagine. To be a developer, all someone needs to do is write an application.
- What do you mean by third-party?
In your relationship with Yahoo!, you are the first party and Yahoo! is the second party. A third-party is anyone else.
A third-party application is made by another person or company -- not by Yahoo!. For example, the U.S. Postal Service is a third-party. If it creates an application that helps you track your packages, that application is a third-party application.
- What is the relationship between Yahoo!, the application, and its developer?
Yahoo! has a limited relationship with developers and their applications.
We let you and the third-party developer have a direct relationship. The goal is to make it easier for you use your data on Yahoo! for purposes other than for the specific services we provide.
Any developer may create a YAP application that asks you to provide consent for Yahoo! to share data with it. If the application developer has a terms of use or privacy policy, these documents will govern the relationship between you and the developer, including how any information gathered or accessed by the application is treated.
- What does it mean when an application asks for access to my personal information?
When writing applications, developers can declare their need for certain sets of data from your account. That declaration serves as a flag to our servers. When you install an application, our servers read that declaration and use it to ask for your consent to share your personal information with the developer.
If you do not know or trust the developer, do not install the application.
