If you are using Internet Explorer and are having problems loading or running the Live Draft client, please try the following:
- Make sure that you test your system. If the tester returns "Failed" and you are checking from a place of business, then you most likely have a network firewall issue. If the tester returns "Failed" and you are using a commercial ISP at home, then send us the contents of your Java Console as described in Steps 5 and 6. If the tester fails to appear, then continue to Step 2.
- Make sure that you have Java enabled:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Select Internet Options from the Tools menu.
- In the Internet Options dialog box, select the Security tab.
- Click the Custom level button at the bottom right.
- The Security settings dialog box will pop up. Under the Java Permissions category, make sure that High Safety is checked. Under the Scripting category, make sure that Enable is checked for Active Scripting, Allow paste options via script and Scripting of Java applets.
- Click OK twice to close out.
- Select the Internet Options choice from the Tools menu and click on the Settings button. Make sure that you have selected Automatically as the option under the heading "Check for newer versions of stored pages".
- Check the security level on your browser by choosing Internet Options from the Tools menu and clicking on the Security tab. Then, click on the Internet icon listed under the "Select a Web content zone to specify its security setting" header. Make sure that the security level is set to Medium or lower inside the box that says "Security level for this zone". If it is not, select the Default Level option, and press OK to save. Then, try to load the applet again.
Steps 5, 6, 7 apply only to the Microsoft VM.
- From the Tools menu, select Internet Options. Then, click on the Advanced tab and scroll down to the middle of the dialog box until you see Microsoft VM as a heading. Check the option "Java console enabled (required restart)" and restart the browser. When Internet Explorer restarts, the Java Console option should be available from the View menu.
- Try to start the Live Draft Client again, select Java Console from the View menu, and send us any information that you see displayed in the Java Console window.
If your live draft is already over, then run the Live Draft Tester. Click on "Run Test". If it returns "Failed", send us any information that you see displayed in the Java Console window.
- At the top of the Java Console, you should see a line similar to "Microsoft (R) VM for Java, 5.0 Release 5.0.0.3810" If the last four digits (this is your version number) are lower than 3810, then we suggest that upgrade your Microsoft Virtual Machine. You may contact customer support for details on how to do this. After you download and install a new version of the Java VM, restart your browser and make sure that you now see the 3810 version number in your Java Console.
