If, like many people, you use more than one email account regularly, you’re likely to have some contacts in one that you don’t have in the other, or one account that contains many more contacts than another. Rather than having to switch back and forth between accounts just to access missing contacts, why not just transfer that data so it’s always readily available no matter which account you’re using? In Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP or NT, you can quickly and easily export an address book from one Yahoo! Mail account and import it into another.
To export an address book from a Yahoo! account:
- Click Contacts to open the address book you want to export and select Export from the Tools pull-down menu.

- Click the Export Now button next to Yahoo! CSV: and in the File Download window that opens, click Save.

- Enter a new file name (or keep the name that appears in the File name box) and click Save, which saves it as a CSV file.

- In the Download complete window that opens, click Open to automatically open the CVS file in Microsoft Excel, where you can make any necessary changes before importing it to the other account.

Warning: When editing the data, make sure never to change the field names in the first row.

Important: You must save your revised data in CSV—not in Excel (.XLS) format—before you can import it into another Yahoo! account.
To import the address book into another Yahoo! Mail account:
- Sign out of the account from which you exported the address book data.
- Sign into the Yahoo! email account in which you’re importing the data.
- Click Contacts to open your Yahoo! Address Book, and select Import from the Tools menu.

- In the Import window, choose Yahoo! (.CSV file) as the program to import contacts from, browse your computer to select the file you’re importing, and click Import Now.

When the process is finished, a note appears at the top of the Import Now window telling you how many contacts were imported.
