How do I set up Yahoo! Autosync?

The first time Yahoo! Autosync launches, you’ll be guided through configuring the application in a few easy steps. The process goes like this:

  1. Configure which applications to sync

    • Yahoo! Autosync synchronizes Yahoo!:
      • Address Book
      • Calendar
      • Notepad
      • Tasks/ToDos
    • To:
      • Outlook
      • Outlook Express (only Addressbook)
      • Palm Desktop

Options will only appear as they apply. For example, you won’t be able to configure syncing Calendar, Notepad, or Tasks to Outlook Express, since it only has a Contacts list. If you don’t have Palm Desktop installed, you won’t be able to configure to sync your information to Palm Desktop.

    When you’re done, click Next.

  2. Configure automatic or manual sync

Automatic sync ensures that your data stays up to date across both data sources at all times. It also ensures that you have fewer opportunities for data conflict. We strongly suggest that you enable Automatic sync by selecting Yes, then clicking Next.

Even if automatic sync is enabled you can manually initiate a sync whenever you’d like. Just click the Autosync icon and select “Sync to Yahoo! Now” anytime you want to sync.

  3. Yahoo ID and password

Before starting your very first sync, Yahoo! Autosync will ask you for your Yahoo! username and password. Here’s where you get to enter your username and password! Yay. Please do not include the @yahoo.com portion. As you probably know, usernames are case-sensitive. Enter your info carefully.

If you selected manual instead of automatic sync, then you’ll see a checkbox confirming that you’re OK with your username and password being stored so you don’t have to enter them every time you sync. Click OK when you’re done.

Outlook users: Outlook may be configured to ask for your username and password whenever it is used. This only applies to you if, when you open Outlook, you’re asked to enter a username and password. If this applies to you, enable auto-login on Outlook. Here’s how: go to the Windows “Control Panel” and double click “Mail”. Click “Show Profiles”. Select “Always use this profile” and select the profile you want to sync to.

Tip: Your username and password will be safely stored on your computer. We store your username and password in a secure format and will occasionally ask for you to confirm the password for added security.

  4. Finish

The last screen of the setup will confirm that your settings have been changed successfully. If you enabled Automatic Sync, then once you click Finish, your first sync will start. If you have not enabled Automatic sync then you’ll have the option to immediately start your very first sync.

Advanced Settings button: Unless you consider yourself an advanced or “power” user, you probably don’t need to adjust these settings. If you do, then advanced settings give you the opportunity to specify individual field mappings between systems and expand the date range to include timed items. You can also turn off synchronization for completed "to do" items. But please be aware that any incorrect modifications to the advanced settings could cause data loss.
