Why can't I change my name servers?

If you registered a new domain name when you signed up for your plan (after January 22, 2001), we automatically locked your domain as soon as it became active.

Domain locking is a free security enhancement offered by Yahoo! to prevent unauthorized transfers of your domain to another registrar or web host by "locking" your domain name servers. When you activate domain locking, you ensure that only an account administrator can make changes to your domain. Unauthorized third parties will not be able to transfer your domain without your permission, and you will not be able to inadvertently make changes to your name servers that could prevent Yahoo! from hosting your domain services properly.

Domain locking is activated by default. When your domain is locked, the "Change Name Servers" button on your "Advanced DNS" page will be inactive, and an "Unlock Domain" button will become available. To make changes to your domain name servers, you will need to sign in to the Domain Control Panel and turn off domain locking by clicking the "Unlock Domain" button. Learn more.
