I don't want to use my Business Mail mailboxes. How can I send and receive all of my messages from my free Yahoo! Mail account instead?

If you would like to manage all of your mail from your free account instead of using your new premium Business Mail mailboxes, you have a few options.

(Note: If you previously used Personal Address with your GeoCities Pro or Web Hosting Starter plan, these tips will help you re-create your original mail experience.)

How It Works Now: Separate Mailboxes
Your personalized email addresses are associated with a separate Business Mail mailbox. You can send and receive messages with your personalized email address (such as info@widgetdesigns.com) from this mailbox, and send and receive messages from your free Yahoo! email address (like jane_smith@yahoo.com) from your free inbox.

You'll find links to both your free and Business Mail mailboxes in your regular Web mail interface. To review received emails or send messages from your free or personalized address, just click the name of that account in the menu provided.

Receiving Business Mail in Your Free Inbox
The simplest way to receive all of your mail (messages sent to both your free @yahoo address and your personalized addresses) in your free inbox is to forward all of your messages from your Business Mail mailbox to your free inbox. Learn how to set up forwarding.

When you forward your messages, you won't need to access your premium mailbox to see your new mail. You'll stop receiving mail in your premium mailbox, and all messages sent to that address will appear in your free inbox as they were before you began using Business Mail.

(Please note that if you forward your mail, you can't use POP to manage messages with your own email software.)

Receiving and Sending Business Mail from Your Free Inbox
When you forward all of your mail to your free account, you'll be able to review all of your incoming mail in one place, but you'll still need to visit your premium mailbox to send messages from your personalized address. If you don't want to switch mailboxes to send mail either, you'll just need to add some information to your free account.

In this process, you'll add your Business Mail address as an "external account" associated with your free account. The setup process is quick: You'll provide some details about your account, then verify the settings. In fact, you can use this process to send and receive messages from any email address you control — even Gmail or Hotmail addresses, for example.

To add your Business Mail mailbox as an external account:

  1. Sign in to your free account at http://mail.yahoo.com. You'll be prompted to enter your Yahoo! ID and password if you haven't already.

  2. Click "Options" in the upper-right corner of the page, then choose "Mail Options" from the pull-down menu.

  3. On the page that opens, click "Accounts."

  4. Click the "Add or edit an account" link on the Accounts page.

The Mail Accounts page opens in a new window or tab.

Note: If you're using the original Mail interface, click "Mail Options" in the upper-right corner of the page. On the page that opens, click the "Mail Accounts" link.

  5. Click the "Add" button to launch the Add Account wizard.

  6. In Step 1, enter a name for your Business Mail account (for example, Info or Work), then click the "Continue" button.

  7. In Step 2, enter the name and email address of your Business Mail email account. Enter the name you want to appear in the "From" field of your messages, then click the "Continue" button.

  8. You can skip Step 3.

  9. Click the "Setup Mail Server" button. The "Verify Account" page should appear.

  10. If the email address that appears is correct, click the "Send Verification" button. We'll send a confirmation message to your Business Mail address to verify that you're the owner of the account.

  11. From the dropdown menu at the top of the page (or the column at left, if you're using the old Mail interface), select the name of your Business Mail account to open your Business Mail mailbox. When the confirmation message arrives, follow the instructions in the message to complete the verification process.

When you have completed the verification steps, you'll be able to send mail from your personalized email address by choosing that address from a dropdown menu that appears in the From field of a new
message.
